Kristen Merlin is an American country singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for her standout performance on Season 6 of NBC’s The Voice in 2014, where she finished in the Top 5 as a member of Team Shakira.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Born on December 13, 1984, in Hanson, Massachusetts, Kristen developed a passion for music at a young age. She began performing in school musicals and chorus, and during her junior year of high school, she received her first guitar, quickly teaching herself to play and starting to write her own songs . Kristen pursued her love for music academically, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Sound Recording from the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

Rise to Fame on The Voice

Kristen's national breakthrough came with her audition on The Voice, where she performed Sugarland’s “Something More,” impressing coaches and audiences alike . Throughout the competition, she delivered powerful renditions of songs like “Stay” by Sugarland, “Let Her Go” by Passenger, and “I Drive Your Truck” by Lee Brice . Despite a technical mishap during her live performance of “Stay,” where her microphone cut out, Kristen continued singing undeterred, earning praise for her professionalism and resilience.

Music Career and Discography

Following her success on The Voice, Kristen released her debut EP, Boomerang, in 2015. The five-song collection, featuring four tracks penned by Kristen herself, showcased her distinctive voice and songwriting skills, reaching No. 2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart.

She continued to build her discography with subsequent releases, including the single “Don’t Call It a Comeback” in 2018 and the EP Humans Being in 2019.
